Radio Mast
Dyneema® Spec-12 Rope for stay-wire/rope on amateur radio mast.

The mast has now been up for a few months using treated heat set Dyneema® ropes for stay-wires. The mast is 18 Meters high and supported by six stay-ropes, three from the middle and three from the top. A total length of 75Meters of 5mm Spec-12 was used. This installation is at 22 Wagenaar Street, Monte Vista, Cape Town, South Africa.

Fitted to the top of the mast is a 7 element yagi amateur beam. This beam has a boom length of 7.3 meters. The boom is supported by 2mm Spec-12 rope as guy ropes.
Shortly after the mast and beam went up we had a few days of a very strong wind. After the wind died down I had a look at the Spec-12 stay-ropes. They did not stretch at all!
Using the Spec-12 ropes and not metallic stay ropes, brought the specifications of the beam back and I now have a SWR of 1:1 on ALL bands.
This stuff is better than sliced bread!!

I am attaching a photo of the tower and beam. Another plus point of the Dyneema® Spec-12 is that as it is blue, it is virtually invisible against the sky and thus gives a much neater look to the installation.
